Heritage Monitoring Scouts (HMS Florida) is a public engagement program as part of The Florida Public Archaeology Network focused on tracking changes to archaeological sites at risk, particularly those impacted by climate change in the form of erosion and sea level rise. As a (HMS) volunteer I help create reports on site conditions for their statewide database which includes documenting, photographing and videoing many Florida historical areas. They often include historical cemeteries, old structures, Native American Indian sites and other sensitive areas that are under threat from development and erosion. It is a way to help provide important updates about the status and condition of these places of history over time as they change and they are always changing so it’s important to keep track of them. I am proud to help give back through my adventures and cherish these sites very much and hope that will be protected for generations to come.
